(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On September 7, 2019, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 61.
Investigation revealed that the driver of a pick-up truck drove into the rear of a tractor trailer that was stopped at the intersection.
Officers determined that the driver of the pick-up truck driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and further tests were conducted.
Jay PALO, 47 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with:
- Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code,
- Operation while Impaired by Alcohol or Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
PALO is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on November 8, 2019 to begin answering to the charges.
Motorists who drive impaired by alcohol or drugs are subject to drivers licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records and increased insurance costs.
The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
