Gun Threat Closes Westgate

Hey (THUNDER BAY, ON) –  Last night on Snapchat, a threat was made to Westgate.
This morning, Lakehead Public Schools decided to shut down the school for today. It appears police have not been able to secure enough evidence to make an arrest.

Westgate Closed Today – Oct 11
Due to an online threat directed at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Westgate will be closed today – Friday, October 11. Students already on buses will be returned home.
Students without keys will be dropped off at Westmount Public School.
All efforts will be made to re-open the school on Tuesday, October 15. Police continue to actively investigate the threat.


 
Police released this statement:

The Thunder Bay Police Service is investigating a threat that has been made against Westgate High School.
Police were made aware of a threat that was posted on Snapchat after 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. The snap featured a photograph of what appears to be a rifle with a caption “watch out Westgate.”
The complaint was immediately handed over to the service’s Major Crime Section and officers continue to investigate. School Resource Officers are also assisting with the investigation and liaising with school board officials.
As a precaution, Lakehead Public Schools has closed Westgate for Friday, Oct. 11.
