(FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION, ON) – On July 22, 2018, at approximately 7:25am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision that occurred on Squaw Bay Road on Fort William First Nation.
When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a vehicle in the ditch that collided with a tree. Officers located the driver at a nearby residence.
While speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and further tests were conducted.
Daniel COUZELIS, 25 years of age, from Oliver Paipoonge, was arrested and charged with:
- Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
- Care or Control of Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,
- Operate Motor Vehicle Without insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on August 28, 2018 to answer to the charges.
