LONGLAC MAN ACTING STRANGE IN GERALDTON DISTRICT HOSPITAL ON CRACK AND METH PLEADS GUILTY AND GETS A SUSPENDED SENTENCE AND PROBATION.
Appearing in courtroom 102 before His Honour Dino DiGiuseppe is a 54 year old GUY FORTIER of Longlac to plead guilty today to possession of crack cocaine.
He’s about 5’5″ and a bit pudgy. He has a very noticeable walk related to a disability he claims he got operating heavy equipment at the Greenstone Landfill sight.
Federal Crown Attorney Alec Hardiejowski is present along with defence attorney Gil Labine.
Admitted facts before the court were that March 2,2018, GUY FORTIER was admitted to Geraldton District Hospital for medical treatment. On March 9,2018 the hospital staff noticed FORTIER behaving very “strange”. The Doctor requested a urine test from Fortier.
The urine test came back positive for drugs which were not prescribed to him.
Out of concern for other patients in the immediate vicinity, hospital staff searched the duffel bag that Fortier brought to the hospital with him.
They found a pill container with pills of methamphetamine in it, along with .1 gram of crack cocaine. Greenstone OPP were called and charges were laid.
Fortier did not want to leave his illegal drugs at home, so he brought them to hospital. He mistakenly took a methamphetamine pill instead of a sleeping pill as an explanation for his strange behavior.
The court hears that Fortier receives long term disability and CPP.
He also has previous drug conviction from 2011. His Honour wonders how someone on limited income can afford expensive drugs but agrees to the joint submission of 12 month suspended sentence and probation. The possession of methamphetamine charge is withdrawn by the crown. He’s also ordered to pay a 100$ victim surcharge fine.
