(DRYDEN, ON) – On July 3rd, 1993, Provincial Constable Eric Nystedt, of Minden Detachment, was fatally stabbed while investigating a domestic disturbance. An annual award was established in his honour, beginning in 1994.
This award has two categories, recruit of the year and field member of the year. Each category has a male and female winner.
Erin HUCKELL, a 17 year OPP veteran and is the 2018 female recipient of the Eric NYSTEDT memorial fitness award. She has been a role model for all ages, all sizes and all levels of fitness. Her approach towards fitness and healthy eating inspires the community and members of the OPP. She is known for her drive, ambition and larger than life personality and uses all of these skills coupled with her vast experience in fitness to coach, teach, motivate and encourage fitness as a way of life for all.
Erin is involved in her local recreation centre hosting two spin classes a week along with two low impact aqua-fit classes. She is the Dryden OPP Detachment fitness room manager and fundraises to purchase new and up to date equipment.
Erin is part of the OPP’s THRIVE program and provides coaching on both healthy eating and running. She is a regular participant in the Winnipeg half marathon and in 2017 and 2018 competed in Iron Man Competitions; the first of which was a 70.3 mile triathlon.
