With school coming to an end and warmer weather; the streets often see more bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

It is important that all motorists be aware of the increased activity on the roadways and take steps to ensure they are operating motor vehicles taking this into consideration.

It is also important for those members of the public who are walking and riding bicycles on the sidewalks and roadways take measures to ensure they are safe.Β When walking or riding a bicycle, you should strongly consider the use of high visibility clothing.

Cyclists are reminded that the use of bicycle helmets is mandatory for persons under the age of 18 years and members of the public older than 18 are strongly urged to wear the proper safety equipment.Β It is also a requirement under the Highway Traffic Act that a bicycle has appropriate lighting when being used in low light hours.
