(THUNDER BAY, ON) – MURDER IN MARATHON – BAIL HEARING FOR ACCUSED KILLER
Appearing handcuffed in Thunder Bay Superior Courtroom 204 today, Wednesday, February 6, 2019 is 63 year old ALAIN JOSEPH LEPAGE (pictured right) of Marathon, Ontario.
His Honour, Superior Court Justice Douglas C. Shaw is presiding. Crown Attorney Sherri Frenette and defence lawyer George Joseph are present.
Also present in the courtroom is the son of Lepage and a female friend of the accused. There are two OPP Officers from Marathon as well as an OPP Case Manager from Orillia.
A close friend of 61 year old murder victim Anne Marie Lees Rainville (pictured left) is also present in the body of the court having made the drive from Marathon, Ontario.
A bespectacled LEPAGE enters the courtroom in custody of TBPS Constables. He has a slight shuffle when walking. He’s wearing a new blue button-up collared shirt and a gray outer sweater-style jacket with brown leather patches on the elbows and gray pants with dark shoes. He stands approximately 5’5” tall and has a slightly heavier than average build.
LEPAGE is facing a FIRST DEGREE MURDER CHARGE in the shooting death of Anne Marie Lees Rainville on April 5, 2018 at a home on Michano Drive in Marathon.
Due to a Section 517 publication ban on the proceedings, evidence and reasons at this bail hearing cannot be published until the murder trial is over.
I will say this, it’s unlikely that I will ever see a Murder Bail Hearing like this again in my lifetime. I can pretty much guarantee that. Absolutely one of a kind bail hearing.
The hearing started after 10 am and finished near 4:30 pm.
Crown and defence made submissions to His Honour Douglas Shaw.
A decision will be made by His Honour on February 14, 2019.
LEPAGE has been in custody since April 5, 2018 and will remain in custody at the Thunder Bay Jail.
The friend of RAINVILLE told Inside Edition what a good friend she was and how much she loved her son Justin and grandson William.
RIP ANNE MARIE LEES RAINVILLE
