On March 12, 2018, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of vehicle in downtown core of the Town of Blind River.
The vehicle was observed travelling eastbound on Highway 17 at a high rate of speed. Shortly after a sighting of the motor vehicle, it was located having skidded across the westbound lane into a ditch, east of the junction of Highway 17 and Lauzon Village Road in Algoma Mills. A male and female then fled on foot in a brushed area along the highway.
Uniformed officers set up containment along Highway 17 and members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit began a track of the area and were successful in locating the male and female shortly after 2:30 p.m…
As a result of the investigation, Kyle BOURQUE, 27 years of age from Sudbury, Ontario was charged with:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 333.1 of the Criminal Code (CC);
- Theft Under $5000 from a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC;
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 355(a) of the CC;
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, contrary to section of 249(1)(a) of the CC; and with
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (X2), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River on March 13, 2018 and was remanded into custody.
Chelsea MACLEOD, 22 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with: Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 355(a) of the Criminal Code.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 3, 2018.
