(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to an incident last night just before midnight after a 911 call was made.
A woman was fearful for her own safety after an allegedly drunk and violent 43-year-old Dan Vezina is alleged to have assaulted the woman in her own home.
Sources indicate that Dan is alleged to have demanded money from the woman and damaging her bank card when she told him that she had no money. At this point allegations are that Dan threw a glass candle holder.
Dan Vezina appeared in a Thunder Bay bail court this morning by video from the Thunder Bay Police Service station. He was wearing a black t-shirt that appeared to have the neck stretched out to the point I think I may have seen a nipple. Bald and low energy, Vezina stared into the camera for most of his appearance.
Vezina appeared before Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Denette Ellard, Crown Attorney Derrick Silvestro and a duty counsel representative. His lawyer of choice is Gilbert Labine, but Gilbert Labine did not show up in court today. He is facing the following criminal charges:
- Assault on a woman
After some discussion in court, Vezina was granted release on the following conditions:
- Reside with his parents
- $1000 no deposit bail
- No contact with his alleged victim
- Do not attend within 50 meters of anywhere his alleged victim works, goes to school, lives, or otherwise might be
- Do not consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances
- Do not possess any weapons
Vezina has a dated but related record stemming from as far back as the early 1990’s and as recent as 2008.
Vezina is ordered released and has a future court date of July 26th.
