(SHABAQUA, ON) – Reports are coming in to our newsdesk regarding a highway collision that happened on Highway 17 roughly 12km past Finmark road, near shabaqua corners.
The incident occurred east of Shabaqus at HWY 11/17 and Bylunds Pit Rd.
Confirmed information is that a person(s) were sent to hospital via helicopter. The air ambulance landed on the highway.
8 people were involved, and 5 were trapped in a vehicle. They were extracted, and no word is available if anyone was fatally injured.
Sources indicate that they believe an impaired driver was involved and that this situation happened sometime between 9:30 am and 10:00 am.
There have been numerous fatal collisions this year on area highways. Concrete dividers would mitigate this issue.
No reports have been made yet by police, but they have confirmed the collision took place.
We are investigating the situation and will have more updates as they become available.
Please drive safe and cautiously on all roads.
