PAUL JOSEPH VUKMANICH DENIED BAIL AFTER HEARING THAT SPANNED 2 DAYS
JUSTICE OF THE PEACE FRANK DEVINE CALLS HIS CRIMINAL RECORD “DEPLORABLE”
VUKMANICH WAS OUT PREVIOUSLY ON 20 THOUSAND DOLLAR BAIL.
A bail hearing that started on Tuesday May 8,2018 and ended on Wednesday May 9,2018 took less than 15 minutes for His Worship Frank Devine to decide. Testimony was heard from the accused’s father and mother who were willing to do a cash deposit of 25 000$ this time.
Crown Attorney Franceline Auclair would not agree to it. Defence lawyer Christopher Watkins was in the reverse onus situation to prove why his client should be released.
31 year old VUKMANICH is a very large bald man. At least 6’3” tall and in excess of 250lbs.
He has several charges before the courts.
Allegations are heard that on December 18,2017 that VUKMANICH pepper sprayed a woman and her roommate at a residence on Simpson Street. He allegedly took all her cellphone, money and drugs. He was arrested by police and released in January on 20 000$ no deposit bail.
It’s further alleged that while on bail that on April 18,2018 at approximately 11:40am that VUKMANICH held a woman on the ground outside in the 600 block of Catherine Street with a pair of scissors to her neck. He’s arrested again by TBPS officers.
The court hears testimony from VUKMANICH’S mother. She wants her son to come live with her again. She knows he’s been in and out of jail for at least 15 years. She thinks he has a cocaine problem. She’s willing to put up the money to get her son out.
VUKMANICH’s father works for the City of Thunder Bay and is retiring in a few months. He says he’ll be able to look after his son more. He thinks his son is getting better than he used to be.
PAUL VUKMANICH testifies that he has ADHD and PTSD. Says he wants to go for drug treatment. He worked at Leon’s Furniture and says he did a good job but got fired when he didn’t show up to work for a few days. He finished his Grade 12 in prison and got an extra 15 credits on top of that. Says he doesn’t associate with gang members no more. Crown Attorney Auclair is going through his very lengthy record. The accused corrects her on the armed robbery in 2010. It was done with a hatchet, not a firearm.

After all the testimony, His Worship Devine says he will take some time to make a decision. He returns less than 15 minutes later. He states that VUKMANICH was already out on 20 000$ Bail when he allegedly breached. So he’s not sure how putting extra money down will help.
He calls VUKMANICH’s criminal record “DEPLORABLE” and tells the accused that he’s had an absolute disregard for court orders.
BAIL IS DENIED FOR VUKMANICH.
