(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Chief Sainnawap of Pikangikum First Nation has informed members of her First Nation that they are to head to the Valhalla Inn upon arrival in Thunder Bay to receive benefits/supports.

β€œIn order to receive evacuation support (accommodation and/or food) all self-evacuees MUST report to the Valhalla Inn in THUNDER BAY (1 Valhalla Inn Rd, Thunder Bay, ON P7E 6J1). Once there, you must register in the Executive Boardroom on the second floor.” Stated Chief Sainnawap.

She continues β€œIf you decide to stay elsewhere you will NOT be able to benefit from these supports.”.

You will only get supports if you goto the Valhalla Inn! Failing to do so will result in you being left on your own.

Thunder Bay is expecting around 200 evacuees.

For those travelling, the Chief has supports set up in Dryden.

β€œFor support along the way, you can find food and gas cards in DRYDEN at DRYDEN ARENA (82 Whyte avenue Dryden, ON P8N 1Z5).” She stated.

Dryden had declared a state of emergency so that any relief provided will be paid for by upper levels of government and not fall on the city of Dryden’s tax base.

Drive safe and be careful.
