(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A serious south side house fire erupted overnight which has resulted in one fatality.
A home in the 300 block of Bethune Street, near the intersection with May Street was engulfed in flames overnight. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the scene around 3:30am and eventually extinguished the flames.
Next of kin has been notified and we have been given the name of one of the fatalities.
Chris Witzell has passed away in this fire. He was found in the home and CPR was commenced. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police continue to investigate and hold the scene of the home. No statement has been released by police or fire regarding this situation as of the time of this publishing.
The home is currently listed as “for sale” and a neighbour doesn’t believe anyone was living in it.
Witzell is survived by his children. He was the only person to have passed away in this incident. Police are investigating why people were in the home to begin with.
