UPDATED: Serious South Side Collision Interrupts Traffic

(THUNDER BAY, ON) โ€“ A serious collision has happened overnight in which details are few.

EARLIER:ย Waterloo/Balmoral and Cameron/Dease (Basically outside of Ginoโ€™s Pizza on Balmoral, Thunder Bay street names can be confusing, but this intersection takes the cake.) was the location of the incident.

At least two vehicles were involved and both sustained significant damage while one of them appears completely wrecked.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service had the area blocked off and were working on sorting out the situation.

We have no word yet on if anyone was injured in the overnight crash, but it would be a miracle if no one was.

UPDATE:ย Shortly before 9:00 am this morning, ย police released the below statement.

Two vehicle collision sends two people to hospital, one with serious injuries

On Monday, Sept. 9, 2019, at 11 p.m., Thunder Bay Police were dispatched to Waterloo Street just south of Cameron Street in regards to a motor vehicle collision.

Initial officers on scene found that two vehicles had collided head-on. One of the drivers was trapped inside the vehicle requiring extrication by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.

The Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit was called to the scene. The initial investigation has revealed that a GMC Jimmy was south bound on Waterloo Street just south of Cameron Street. This vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a north bound Dodge Ram pickup truck in the center north bound lane.

The driver of the GMC Jimmy, a 27 year old Thunder Bay male, sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 27 year old Thunder Bay female, also sustained injuries however not as serious in nature.

The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was gathered.

The investigation is ongoing. The Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information that may assist with the investigation to contact them at 807-684-1276 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
